Attendants of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. were treated to a surprise Sunday when deceased rapper Tupac Shakur took to the stage to perform with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. The set featured Tupac’s “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted,” which features Snoop.
Though he was fatally shot in 1996, Tupac was able to attend the 2012 festival in holographic form, becoming the second rapper to do so. The first was The Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am’s holographic interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN during the 2008 presidential election. Will.i.am’s appearance, however, was done on green screen, meaning that only those watching on television could actually see him, while Tupac’s performance could be seen by anyone present at the festival.
